For some odd reason I thought just opening a blog would do the trick. Those who know me could tell you I need the right muse to share. Well, apparently, the blog and those of you who have pushed me to blog are not bound to the muse. In any case, since this is my first blog let’s set some ground rules:
1. I expect feedback! I promised to those who urged me to respond and so I will.
2. truvle will be mentioned. Not promoted but definitely mentioned.
3. 3 paragraphs at the most.
4. Primarily travel related topics will be discussed but It may get personal.
5. Lastly – rage will be expressed here – perhaps by little things but if already blogging might as well
With that, here goes…
My first blog will touch the “mobile strategy” and the mobile apps.
When I worked for Interwise, back in 2000, the hottest buzzword in the area was E-Learning. Every college in the country claimed to have an E-Learning program. Why? Because this is what they realized they had to do. They had to be able to SAY they have an E-Learning program. So if anyone would apply or ask – yeah sure, we got an E-Learning program.
Then, you would go into their actual program and realized their E-Learning program was simply the professor sending assignments and getting replied through emails. THROUGH EMAILS!!! Hey, that’s E-Learning. True but if you take a step back, true online, virtual learning including live vocal discussions and material sharing was the real thought behind E-Learning.
A couple of years later a new buzzword came through and only very few schools developed their own real E-Learning program.
Ladies and gentlemen – today truvle is a B to B to C platform. We do not need a mobile app!! Especially not because it is the latest buzzword out there.
What do we really need an app for? We can integrate with any 3rd party you desire and we already have a fully working integration with WorldMate and talking to TripIt (yes TripIt – no I do not see them as competition – remember – B to B to C?).
truvle intends to become a backend platform for any frontend email confirmation. Here I said it!
Just like ITA for Kayak, YAPTA and many others, truvle with no ego, intends to become the engine behind many email confirmations providers such as travel agencies, airlines, booking engines, hotel chains, car rentals and others.
OK, after that clarification, we offer today mobile version itinerary with check-in links, flight status links, ads (last 3 will be available in March), Outlook synch, branding and more all with NO NEED to download an application. Simple browser and all is out there!
Again, I realize the differences with the slick looks and other cool functionalities with an app but really no need. If you want it use TripIt, World Mate or any other app you may choose and we will gladly help you getting to those with promoting them. Stop thinking you need an app – it gets me app-set.
Talk to me about your C. About your Customers’ needs and do not make me or make yourself adjust your service due to any new buzzword. I promise to comply with your customers’ actual needs and Don’t feel you need just to be able to say that you have a mobile app for the sake of having a mobile app.
I will not be surprised if it is all a marketing scheme by the cellular companies.
That’s about 3 paragraphs!
Thank you for listening.
